I am a simple person who likes wearing cheap shorts and T-shirts with holes in them. For those who believe in such things, I am apparently a Gemini. Some days I'm a devout atheist and sometimes I will cheat by having a slice of pan-psychism or post-theism; as long as it’s not box-standard theism in any shape, way or form. Passionate about my mother tongue Afrikaans. Although I don't yet speak any of South Africa's African languages (neither my primary school nor my high school offered any), I am currently learning Tsonga on Angula app – a strange choice for a Capetonian. Nevertheless I feel strongly that more effort should be made to promote them. In the light of the current onslaught, where English always wins due to bad history and social expediency, it is my understanding that the fates of Afrikaans and African languages are clearly intertwined. My Italian is extremely rusty nowadays. I enjoy listening to world folk music, especially Hindustani or Irish Sean-Nós music. But pop is fine. Most of the time silence is the best tune. I Practice meditation (dhyāna). Especially interested in Jainism, as well as religion in general from a social sciences perspective. Have a life-long interest in organic shapes, especially those seen in marine invertebrates. Loner. Enjoy one-on-one conversations more than group interactions. My favourite artists are too many to name, from ancient to contemporary, from realistic to abstract. Love African masks, textiles and wooden sculptures – they have a magnetic quality. They also inform the new art I have been making since October 2024. Past my prime and somewhat fat (but chubby sounds nicer, I think). Nevertheless I manage to make the bed, do the laundry, draw paintings, and walk in the neighbourhood. Should stop this now, it's turning into a sermon and the entire congregation is asleep...
